During the Renaissance a great interest in the occult emerged. Since the Roman Catholic Church hoards all their occult and satanic books of magick they felt this was a threat to their power.
Leonardo Da Vinci created the famous “Pentagram of Man” in which the pentagram symbolism details the 5 limbs (left and right hand – and foot of the path) and head. The upward pentagram points to the crown chakra, the head, and intellect, the divine, reasoning, and the symbolism of heaven. By implication the downward facing pentagram therefore points to the loins, the root chakra, the animalistic and sexual / instinctual / survival nature, (in science called “the reptilian brain”) and downward symbolism hell. This led to many new manifestations and creations of magick.
While the occultist scientist got away with this diagram other occultists were not so lucky. The use of Tarot cards was considered witchcraft which was of course punishable by death in every Country in which the Roman Catholic Church existed.
In order to hide the tarot cards a deck of “Spanish playing cards” was created using all the same suites of tarot cards that consisted of the entire minor arcania of a tarot deck. Games were created to hide the fact these were tarot cards. However the Roman Catholic Church caught on quickly.
Therefore a new deck was established which is the standard playing deck of today. This deck transformed the tarot suites using new symbolism. Hearts were cups, Diamonds were coins / pentacles, spades were swords and clubs were wands. The implications were easy enough to figure out. In addition to this one card was missing, the pages, because Jacks were knights.
Additional games were created using multiple systems including gambling and mere entertainment some involving sheer luck and others involving skill.
Since so many people were using the cards with no idea of their secret meaning the new system was successful and the Roman Catholic Church was unable to assassinate people, because they really could not tell the difference between the actual tarot users and the people merely playing a game with the cards.
Since these cards are actually Tarot cards you can use them the way tarot cards are used, which means you can perform tarot readings with them and you can cast spells with them just like you can with regular Tarot cards. The Joker card is the only card in the deck that does not represent the minor arcana of the Tarot and is from the major arcana. It represents a darkside / demonic version of “The Fool” from the tarot deck which is a card of exploration and learning that, when upright is actually a positive meaning of not foolishness but starting on a new path. In playing cards none of the cards can be reversed. This card is the symbol of our agency.
The New Illuminous Playing Deck
There is a new deck out now. They call it Illuminati, but I consider it Illuminous. Illuminati is middle English for “People of the Light” and Illuminous is Old English for “The Enlightened Ones.” Middle English and Old English are no longer written or spoken by anyone but scholars, and are foreign languages (not poetic references) that common people cannot understand what they say when are hearing the words or seeing the text, because these are older foreign languages.
Transliteration means translating a word into a foreign language and spelling it in a different language, so Illuminati and Illuminous are transliteration of Middle English and Old English respectively.
